*Stabilizer Bath*
The stabilizer bath Increases the stability of the pigments and con-
tains a *wetting* *agent*. In order to avoid drying spots or damage on
film surfaces, the stabilizer bath should be replaced at regular inter-
vals.
Note that the *repeated* use of stabilizer on plastic reels and
tanks can lead to the build-up of a sticky residue that makes the
reels difficult to load and which increased the possibility of back
contamination (stabilizer contamination of first developer).
Washing alone will not remove all stabilizer from a reel or tank. If
you choose to use stabilizer while the film is still on the reel, be
sure that you thoroughly wash and dry the reels after each use.
Periodically use a good quality tray and tank cleaner and a brush to
soak and scrub the reels for the removal of the residue. The alter-
native to this Is, of course, stabilizing your film off the reel in a tray
or tank used only for stabilizer.
