que vaut vieux un 5,6/58 grandagon ?

Cela fait plusieurs fois que je le croise. Si quelqu'un à un avis sur cette objectif.

Selon mes amis, le 58/5.6 Grandagon est un objectif excellent. Mais il parait que le plupart des 58 Grandagons ont des separations dans la "cell" arriere. Le mien, aussi le 58/5.6 de mon voisin Barringer, ont des separations.

Exactly, Herve. The lens consists of four cemented doublets, two in the front cell and two in the rear cell. In my lens, the front doublet in the rear cell (faces the diaphragm) shows some silvery spots. Charlie's shows the classic irregular silvery marking around the periphery, in the same doublet as mine.

According to information I've found on anglophone sites, there was a problem in production -- Bob Salomon says it was poor choice of black paint for the edges of the lenses' elements -- and as a result the glue has failed, over time. This is said to be a problem with many Rodenstock lenses made in the 1960s. A 100/5.6 Sironar that sold recently on ebay.fr shows marking's like Charlies, but in the front cell. I've seen a recommendation that separations like the ones in Charlie's Grandagon and the Sironar can be repaired by injecting oil into the voids. I won't try this.

I have a wide angle adapter for a 25/1.4 Cine Ektar II that has very severe separations; they manifest themselves as Newton's rings.

Herve, another thought. I've bought from the vendor who offers the lens you asked about. I believe he's honest. Ask him whether the lens he offers has separations.

And another thought. The Compur #00 shutter the lens is in is intended for the Graflex XL, a rangefinder camera. The shutter has no "T" speed, no cable release socket, and no "press focus." The Graflex XL focusing mount for the 58 Grandogon incorporates a cable release socket. As is, focusing the lens and then releasing the shutter aren't as easy as most of us would like.

Les Newcomer, a moderator on www.graflex.org, uses a 58 Grandagon on a 4x5 camera. He's sent me a picture that shows how he improvised a cable release socket. I'll send it to you from home later this weekend.

The person who gave mine to me (ok, I paid him $26, including postage, I think that counts as a gift) used it on 4x5 and liked it. He and Les say that it just covers 4x5 with no movements.
Les' trick won't work for me, but I have an empty Compur #00 with a cable release socket. Sooner or later I'll put my lens' cells in it.
