Hmm. For me, focusing in the centers of my 2x3 Graphics' ground glass with a loupe is not a problem. But since my loupe is round, checking focus at the edges and in the corners is very difficult. Perhaps with a rectangular loupe ...
And for me the big problem is composing with a short lens. The corners are dim, ambient light can be a problem, and my cameras' focusing hoods are too short. But I have a section of nominal 10 cm drain pipe that fits over the hood. It makes viewing the GG much easier, with my usual eyeglasses or with +4 diopter reading glasses.
Your idea, Simon, of a large camera with small film can easily be realized with a 4x5 camera whose ground glass is marked for 6x9 and a 6x9 roll holder.
Good luck,
Dan
