Hmmm. Magnification no higher than 1:1. Not clear whether the subjects will be mobile. Costs matter. Not clear whether illumination will be flash or available light. Hmm.
If static subjects, a press or view camera, 6x6 or 6x7 or 6x9 back, with a decent enlarging lens in front of an ex-Polaroid MP-4 Copal Press shutter will give better results than a Kiev 88, will probably cost more. Using it will require a tripod and a focusing rail, preferably 2-axis. More expense, more to carry in the field.
Heresy: at the apertures normally used at magnifications from 1:10 to 1:1, f/16 - f/22, most good enlarging lenses do as well as anything else. For your application, a 120 macro lens is a waste of money. I've had good results with a 75/3.5 Boyey Saphir B in this range, less good with a 135/4.5 Sapir B, outstanding with a 4"/5.6 Wollensak Enlarging Pro Raptar (rare, hard to find). A 100/5.6 Componon should do very well.
If mobile subjects, an SLR or a press/view camera with a focusing frame is needed, SLR would be better.
If flash illumination -- I prefer it because it stops motion -- then an SLR with low flash sync speed will be problematic when working out-of-doors. This rules out the Kiev 88. Hmm.
