What frustrates me is not the technical problems of managing focus, depth of field, and exposure, but that because I always use the same lighting I am, in effect, always taking the same picture. Different subject, same picture, can be very boring.
And for me, setting up a press camera to take a close-up picture in the field can be difficult and time-consuming, even with a focusing rail to reduce the need to put the tripod in exactly the right place. Yesterday I spent the better part of an hour taking four exposures of some butterfly larvae on their host plant. Nearly all of that time was spent assembling the apparatus and positioning the tripod. Uneven ground, much vegetation. Two shots at ~1:1, two more at ~ 1:2. I could have done roughly the same with a Nikon in under 5 minutes, BUT the images would have been much smaller.
